Sigi Fruhauf: Mozart Dissolution

Cinematic one-minute statements about Mozart

One of the declared aims of the VIENNA MOZART YEAR 2006 is to offer contemporary Austrian artists an opportunity to present their approaches to the theme of Mozart. This will include attempts to visually portray his life and work in addition to the way in which the Mozart phenomenon and “brand” as a whole are dealt with. Films represent important contributions to the many portraits of the composer, many of them posthumous.

Twenty-eight well-known filmmakers living and working in Austria were invited by (Peter Marboe, artistic director of) the VIENNA MOZART YEAR 2006, to produce associative miniatures on Mozart. The only requirement: They had to be one-minute art films.

The directors come from a broad spectrum of different backgrounds, ranging from animated, experimental and short film to documentaries and features. As a result the Mozart Minutes represent an impressive cross section of the kind of films produced in Austria and a multi-facetted sampler of formal and contextual views of Mozart and his influence on modern society, art and culture.

The contributions run the gamut from experimental and conceptual statements to socio-critical and documentary observations and pithy short films.
