Alina Elena Bercu was born in Campina, Romania on 9 February 1990. She began piano lessons at the age of eight, and a year later became the student of University Professor Stela Dragulin, PhD at the Faculty of Music in Brasov (from Transsilvania University). She has also attended master classes during international summer courses, under the guidance of the virtuosi Lory Wallfisch (USA, 1999?2004) and Rudolf Buchbinder (Germany, 2005).

She gave her debut concert with orchestra at the age of nine, and presently her concert activity counts over 100 public appearances. She has played with such famous orchestras as the Romanian Radio and Television National Orchestra, the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra in Bucharest, the Gesellschaft Orchestra in Zurich, and the Mozart Orchester in Hamburg, under the batons of Romanian and international conductors such as Emil Simon, Paul Popescu, Ilarion Ionescu Galati, Horia Andreescu, Sergiu Comissiona, Romely Pfund, Robert Stehli and Misha Katz. She has performed in famous concert halls both in Romania and abroad: the Romanian Athenee in Bucharest, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, Grosser Saal in Hamburg, Prinzregententheater in Munich, Tonhalle in Zurich, the Rome Auditorium and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Alina is the winner of a number of national and international prizes. At the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA (July 2004) she won first prize and the gold medal in the “solo” section, first prize and the gold medal in the “concert” section, and the grand prize. She also won the first prize of the jury and the prize of the audience at the Steinway & Sons International Contest in Hamburg (November 2002) as well as the prize “Artistic Performances” granted by the Romanian Society of Radio Broadcast (February 2004).

Alina has made a series of special recordings, including 3 CDs for the Golden Music Library of the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation, and has performed in live broadcasts on radio and television (NBC-SUA, Eurovision, Telepace-Italy, METRO TV-Indonesia and National Television in Romania).
